Bowland Trails

Perthshire Wildlife

Experience the evening or early morning wildlife on one of Perthshire’s loveliest rivers in spring or summer (mid April to mid September). This is the best time to easily see the wild-living beaver families in Perthshire and makes an excellent gift (so we are told!).

We meet near Blairgowrie and take a short drive close to the river. There's a 10 minute easy walk to the water, during which you will find out about the history of beavers in Scotland, their life story, how they re-appeared in Perthshire and why they are so important to the ecology of our rivers. You will do a bit of riverside foraging too! Although wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, Perthshire Wildlife have had a 95-100% success rate of seeing the beavers on this trip between 2017 to 2023. There have also been regular sightings of kingfishers and occasional otter appearances!

Rosie Baxendine has been guiding trips for four seasons now – making her one of the most experienced bikepacking guides in Scotland. Trips focus on enjoyment and learning rather than long hard miles of cycling and are aimed at enabling participants – through knowledge and confidence - to embark on their own adventures in the future if they so wish.
