Meet Laura Wilson
Whispers of the Past is one of Perth’s longest established independents, a vintage homeware and gifts shop first opened by Christine Wilson in 1984, and now proudly run by daughter Laura.
“Mum always wanted a shop; it was her baby. After a week she asked me to help out in the shop because it was so busy, and all these years later I’m still here and so happy to be!”
Based on George Street in the heart of the city, Whispers of the Past is a family business that was started in 1984 and is now much beloved by locals and visitors alike.
The shop has been described as an Aladdin’s cave of goodies. Selling a mix of interiors, homeware and gorgeous gifts, Whispers of the Past offers an endless choice of treats. There’s a real mix of old and new items so there’s something for every style and taste. A range of great quality vintage pieces means that the products are constantly changing so you never quite know what you’re going to discover on each visit, all the more reason to return!
If you’re looking for a gift for someone and lacking inspiration, Whispers of the Past is the perfect solution. It’s wide range of products has something for everyone. You’re bound to hit upon the perfect present, as well as a treat or two for yourself along the way, and that’s just when you catch sight of the always lovely window displays.
Everything you’ll find in the shop has been carefully chosen so you can be sure of top quality whether you’re purchasing a lambswool scarf or some 60s Tuscan pottery. Some of our favourite pieces from the homewares selection recently include a stainless steel 1970s teapot, delicate hand painted ceramic cups and cute Scottish themed coasters.
As part of the ever-changing selection of items available, there’s always a stunning seasonal display so you can be sure of some festive inspiration every time you visit whether it’s Autumnal glassware or Christmas gifts. There’s almost always a gorgeous display of sparkly costume jewellery in the shop too with a mix of necklaces, brooches and bracelets in a whole variety of styles.
Whispers of the Past is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 5pm and on Sundays from 12noon until 4pm.
